Jay-D is a do-it-yourself project that allows you to create a DJ mixtable. While building it, you'll have fun and learn a lot since it's an educational tool as well. It allows you to assemble the electronic components, including volume controls and sound effect buttons, and you'll end up with a working DJ mixer that you can use to play music. It's suitable for beginners.

Building Jay-D teaches you about electronics and digital sound. You'll gain practical knowledge by assembling components and understanding how DJ mixtables work. You'll also learn about digital-to-analog converters, amplifiers, and speakers. Jay-D offers optional coding to make the project even better.

Jay-D is generally recommended for ages 11 and up. The build involves some smaller electronic components, and the DJ concepts are a bit more advanced. That said, a younger, supervised child could definitely enjoy building it with a parent.

No prior experience is required to assemble Jay-D! The kit is designed with beginners in mind and includes detailed, step-by-step instructions. We provide all the necessary components and guidance to make the building process fun and educational, even if you're completely new to DIY electronics.

Tools you need: a soldering iron (also, a soldering iron stand and a soldering sponge) and solder, cutter pliers, standard 2.0 mm cross srewdriver.

Plan on spending an hour and a half building your Jay-D mixtable. Once it's built, though, that's when your DJ journey really begins – experimenting with mixing, scratching, and creating your own sound.

Once built, Jay-D functions as a fully-fledged DJ mixtable, allowing you to mix music, cue up tracks, and add sound effects. You can use the two jog wheels to control playback and scratch, the crossfader to transition between songs, and the built-in buttons to trigger sound effects. It's designed to give you a feel for the core functions of DJing. You can play the preloaded music, or load your own via an SD card.
