CircuitMess MAKERphone 2.0 is a DIY kit for building a real 4G LTE mobile phone. You assemble it yourself, insert a nano-SIM, and make calls and send texts on real cellular networks. Then you learn to code your own apps and games for it.

You'll discover how a mobile phone actually works: the processor, display, keypad, battery and cellular radio, and how they work together. Then you'll learn to code, starting with AI-assisted VibeBoy and moving on to MicroPython and Arduino C++ as your skills grow. You can even flash your own firmware.

Recommended age for MAKERphone 2.0 is 9+. Younger builders may need a hand with small parts. With no browser, app store or social media, it also makes a great first phone.

No. If you can follow an illustrated manual, you can build a MAKERphone. Every part clicks, screws or plugs into place, and step-by-step instructions and video guides walk you through the build. No soldering needed.

Building MAKERphone 2.0 takes about two hours, down from around seven hours of soldering for the 2018 original. Once it's built, pop in a SIM card and make your first call, or start coding right away!

Yes, that's the whole idea! Describe an app in plain English and VibeBoy writes the code for you to read and tweak. Or code directly in MicroPython or Arduino C++.

For calls and texts, yes: a standard nano-SIM from any carrier, on any plan (prepaid works too). MAKERphone uses 4G LTE Cat-1 with 2G fallback. Without a SIM, it still plays games and music, runs modules and connects to Wi-Fi.

No, modules are sold separately. There are 15: Camera, Big Speaker, Flashlight, Environment, Infrared and DIY Perf Board, plus the Pro Module Pack with LoRa, Gyroscope, GPS, Jam, Sub-Screen, Rumble, Compass, Pixels and Laser. A fold-out QWERTY keyboard is available too. Slide one in and its app appears automatically. The phone takes one module at a time, and the QWERTY keyboard adds room for a second.

You get free tracked shipping on orders over $96 (€96 in the EU, to a pickup point). On orders below $96 (€96), shipping is $15, or €7 to an EU pickup point and €10 to an EU home address.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait are the exception: orders there ship by express only, at $40, or $20 on orders over $96.
